Client Reflection: A Boudoir Experience in Chicago – One Year Later
One year ago today, I had the incredible opportunity to meet a remarkable client, Alisen, in Chicago for a boudoir session that would become a turning point in her journey of self-discovery. It was a unique experience—one that began with a train ride from Michigan to Chicago, accompanied by my talented hair and makeup artist, to meet a client who had flown in all the way from California. Together, we transformed a luxurious 5-star hotel room into a haven for self-expression and empowerment.
Reflecting on that experience, Alisen shared: "I invested in myself and had a shoot done in Chicago (the day before walking 60 miles over 3 days for breast cancer). To say that this was a life-changing trip is an understatement for so, so many reasons." Her words truly capture the profound impact that boudoir photography can have—not just as a series of beautiful images, but as a powerful journey toward self-acceptance and love.
What made this session even more special was the context in which it occurred. Alisen was preparing to walk 60 miles over three days for breast cancer awareness, an extraordinary feat of strength and courage. But before taking on that challenge, she decided to invest in herself and celebrate her own journey. She chose to capture her true, authentic self after years of hiding behind "false masks" and striving to be anything but who she really was.
She shared, "After decades of wearing false masks and pretending to be anything but my authentic self, I did some serious mental health work and began to shine. Choosing an artist who could capture and see the real ME… pivotal." Her bravery in choosing to strip away those layers and reveal her true self was inspiring. It was an honor to be the artist she trusted to capture her essence, her strength, and her newly rediscovered confidence.
This session was about so much more than just photographs. It was a celebration of inner strength, self-love, and the courage to face the world without pretense. To be part of this transformative experience, especially in such a vibrant city like Chicago, was a privilege I will always cherish.
One year later, my client continues to shine, embracing her authentic self with every step she takes. I am so proud to have been a part of her journey, and I hope her story inspires others to take that leap—to invest in themselves, celebrate their unique beauty, and choose an artist who will see the real you.
